Running errands in the thick of the summer heat is enough to make anyone melt. Multiply this by two or more children and it’s no wonder our toddler twinnies are more than ready to leap out of their strollers in protest!
We’ve all seen it before. Center stage in the aisle of the local store, there she is: the mom with hands full, and her toddler throwing himself literally onto the floor…a complete and total MELTDOWN! Hurrying, she sets down her purchases, and despite the annoyed looks and scowling faces from onlookers; she scoops up her screaming toddler, (who by this time, is as stiff as a board), and rushes out the front exit doors, as quick as possible.
With an older child and twinnies, I’ve been in this exact position more than once. What was supposed to be a quick jaunt to the store, turned sour due to constant distractions and interruptions from the kids.
There is no easy solution to handling your multiples out in public by yourself. Usually, I have my girls in either the shopping cart or stroller. When the twins start up; reaching as far as they can, to grab something off the shelf; I begin by saying, ‘No-No…No Touch.’ Next comes the 1-2-3 countdown. Most of the time, one of the two usually calms them down. But if all else fails, I grab what I can and out the door we go. Better luck next time!
